Router Setup with the Nighthawk App

Objective

Router setup instructions were added to the NETGEAR Nighthawk app.

My objective was to review the instructions and make sure the text clearly described each task.

My role

Review and edit the router setup instructions in the Nighthawk app.

The process

The original instructions were text-heavy. My approach was to make the instructions easier to follow along.

The following were the main edits I suggested:

Use steps to separate tasks.
Make headings one line to keep the heading style consistent and easy to follow.
Use similar language used in documentation and knowledge base articles to keep a consistent writing style.

The result

The User Research team reported that users found the router setup process in the app easy to follow.

However, the Nighthawk app and router quick start guides had the same setup instructions. Users didn't know which setup instructions they should follow.

As a result, I worked with the Product Marketing team to simplify the instructions in the quick start guide.

The limitations

I worked with Software Engineering and Product Management on the content goals. I did not work with the UX Design team. They were involved in the final implementation process only.

Since I did not work with the UX Design team, I did not know how the final copy would be formatted in the app.
